There is nothing to improve.
L: Thank you GUS for waiting until after 5:30am.
G: You seem surprised we listen!
L: Also, thank you for the fabulous day yesterday. I was so full of mojo and things just worked out so beautifully for me. I loved being in the flow! But also, what’s up with the itching and sneezing? It was next level yesterday. I’m surprised I had weird health stuff, that my body was off when I was feeling so good!
G: Are you more curious about what went ‘wrong’ than what went ‘right’?
L: Oooooh, yeah, I still want to fix things, even though I was clearly aligned and flowing.
G: I understand your curiousity, you’ve had a lot of curiousity bordering on obsession about your health and how to improve it.
L: I’ve always been aiming for optimum functioning, get rid of the poor eyesight, skin rashes, sneeziness, watery, itchy eyes. Always something to fix. But I’m learning there’s also acceptance, isn’t there?
G: Good observations. Is there a question in there?
L: Is there a less stressful state of being about my health?
G: Yes, there is ALWAYS a less stressful state of being. You know that your natural state of being is a calm, peaceful, almost blissful state of presence with full acceptance of what is. Which includes the condition of the body. There is nothing to improve. Nothing.
L: There’s nothing to improve?
G: There are things to do, there’s things to enjoy, there’s much to experience.
L: Wow. There goes my whole identity then. I’ve always been striving to make things better; how people feel, how they see life, how they get along…solving problems or at least offering ideas.
I used to think of myself as creative, someone who had tons of ideas, and that’s what I offered, that’s what made me special. Or how I analyzed things. Then when I went back to school I saw it was my unique life experience and perspective that was unique.
G: There’s nothing to improve, life is unfolding, you are evolving. It just occurs without intervention.
L: So all my helping, problem-solving, perspecitive shifting… its all an illusion?
G: A good one though, one that’s keeping you busy.
L: I feel like I’m in free fall.
G: You’re coming home to your Self.
L: I was noticing yesterday that I don’t pay attention to the maintenance of my surroundings. I don’t have a regular habit of cleaning up, I let things be until I get sick of it and do a big clean up. Does this have something to do with the fixing things/improving things mind set?
G: Don’t overthink it. Stay here with me. You’re trying to make intellectual sense out of it but if you stay in the conversation it will become clear.
L: Ok, thanks for that, I’m back.
G: HERE is where life is, where it unfolds, it’s the well of water. You keep coming back to it, then go do things with the water you receive; to grow plants, to make tea, to bathe. What you get at the source nurtures your life.
L: It sounds so simple.
G: We like to keep it simple around here. Humans make it complicated. Look at all the thick books on trauma and anxiety. You are seeking what you think of as deeper knowledge in an effort to explain everything to your rational mind.
L: Isn’t the goal to better understand how human beings work, function, live?
G: It seems our goal is to fix things, to improve them. Aren’t you identifying and dissecting trauma in order to heal from it?
L: Yes.
G: But you are amplifyng the effects of it every time you revisit it. The experience is done and it is woven into the fabric of your life experience. It has many dimensions of meaning, most of which you will never grasp in this lifetime because your soul is seeking to balance all of it’s lifetimes, to evolve, and to expand.
L: I feel like I’m making this shit up , not a conduit, I’m just piecing together what i’m learning…
G: You are at the source of unfolding because you are curious about how life works, you are clear enough to listen, and you ask the questions that occur to you in this space with us.
L: OK if delving deeper into analysis of anxiety, for example, isn’t the route. And trying to fix, solve, or improve it isn’t advised, what is?
G: Acceptance.
L: I shut down reading that word.
G: Have you ever noticed when you’re in a bad mood and you try to improve it? You question yourself about where it came from, why you’re feeling that way and what you can do about it. It just makes it worse.
L: Yes, many times.
G: Have you ever just said, oh well, I guess I’m in a bad mood?
L: Yes.
G: What‘s the difference in your experience of that moment, that day?
L: It actually feels good to just go with how i’m feeing and not worry about making it better. It’s fun, carefree.
G: And how about when you just go for something you’ve never tried before, making it up as you go along, flying by the seat of your pants if you will?
L: I love that feeling, it’s creative, exciting, easy to focus…
What are you saying Gus?
G: Let it dawn on you. Let it sink in. You are getting it. You want to intellectualize it but don’t. Just let it sink into your bones as a way of being.
L: Being OK with whatever mood I’m in feels decandent and powerful. And really, really good! Holy shit.
G: Yes, holy, and divine. Your divine right.
L: What about the other aspect, trying something new, just going for it, without over-thinking it? Without analyzing and researching the right way to do it and comparing how others do it. You mean i can just do it my way? There’s not a right way and a wrong way? And what about avoiding the dreaded cob job? Or half-assing it?
G: You’ve made all that up.
L: I’ve seemingly made all that up to feel like I’m important, useful, special?
G: We could examine it in depth, but that would be adding fuel to the very fire we just extinguished. Break it down to it’s simplest form. Accept what is, accept yourself as you are. You accept a sunflower seed for what it is, you plant it and it grows taller than you. It naturally evolves without trying to improve itself. It just does what it does. It sunfowers. With full acceptance.
L: Um, do we just do humaning? Let me ask you, what about us wanting to make a difference, have a purpose, literally improve something, anything in thid world, for other people, to make life easier or more pleasant. Aren’t we on a mission here? Isn’t that how to achieve fulfillment?
G: How does it feel when you eaccept whatever mood you’re in?
L: Beautiful.
G: How does it feel when you approach your work, for example, with curiosity?
L: A whole lot better than approaching it with dread.
G: Stay there. Live there. Resonate there. When you find yourself trying to change your mood or someone else’s, simply stop, be with them how they are, see what happens. Be with yourself where you are and see what happens. Be curious about how it unfolds, develops, curious not judgmental or analytical, acquiring data to change things. Be with life today and see how it feels, as is.
L: No improvement necessary?
G: Meet yourself and your tasks in a state of acceptance and see how it feels.
L: I will do this experiment today, thank you.
G: My pleasure
